Teaching Strategies to Improve Patient Education and Motivation

This course promotes a lively discussion of patient compliance issues, frustrations on the part of the healthcare practitioner and possible resolution. The goal is to provide insight through self discovery, into client/patient needs and motivation. Behavioral theories and practical tools are presented for recognizing readiness to change. Compliance vs. adherence, whose mouth is it anyway, and how to build better patient relations are components included in this seminar.

Teaching Tips for Professional Presentations

An opportunity may arise to deliver a dental health presentation to school aged children, eldercare facility, parent group, sales team, study club or other group. Being prepared to deliver an effective massage requires basic skills in communication. This program addresses principles and techniques essential for delivering an effective presentation.


Courses are available for continuing education credit. Length may vary based on topic and group requirements. Sponsorship support may be available.


Joyce Ann Turcotte, RDH, M.Ed., is the President and CEO of Professional Learning Services, an educational and consulting service. She presents seminars and conducts dental hygiene refresher programs on an ongoing basis. Joyce also teaches at Tunxis Community College, CT; practices dental hygiene; and served on several committees and councils with dental hygiene professional organizations. She has served as a consultant to several corporations and served on an advisory board. Her honors include the CDHA Mabel C. McCarthy Award and Sigma Phi Alpha. She is a graduate of Temple University, PA, University of Bridgeport, CT and New York City Community College. Joyce has appeared in ADHA ACCESS, RDH Magazine and Career Directions for Dental Hygienists, second edition. She has also published in several professional magazines and journals.
