A changing paradigm in caries management has widened our decisions in dental preventive care. With terms such as “minimally invasive” and “remineralization
technologies,” we are faced with a new decision model in diagnosing and treating the caries disease process. This program will review the historic trends in caries
control and introduce the exciting new trends in desensitization, topical fluorides, prophy pastes and varnish therapies. Learning Objectives: •Identify the diagnostic
changes utilized in evaluating the caries process. •Discuss and implement the use of the CAMBRE risk assessment tool. •Identify the practice settings and patient
clientele that benefits from the remineralization therapies. •Discuss the latest diagnostic technology in screening and tracking caries patterns. •List the key steps in
the medical model in identifying and treating caries. •Compare and discuss the current delivery systems that contain technologies claiming enamel restoration and
remineralization. •Evaluate and challenge the concept of “selective polishing” with consideration to remineralization benefits in prophy pastes.
•Formulate an effective treatment plan in enamel therapy. •Test out the materials available for enamel therapy
