First Session THE HEALTH HISTORY: Clinical Implications and Medical Emergency Risk Management The health history review is considered the most important exercise to
identify risks during oral healthcare and to prevent a medical emergency during treatment. Learning Objectives: •Identify normal limits of blood pressure, pulse,
respiration, and temperature. •Identify appropriate historical or follow-up questions for positive responses on the health history. •Determine clinical implications for
a variety of drugs and supplements reported on the health history questionnaire. •Determine modifications to the oral healthcare treatment plan based on positive
responses to questions dealing with medical conditions. •Describe the use of the health history to prevent medical emergencies. •Describe management strategies for a
variety of emergency situations that could occur during oral healthcare procedures, including: -loss of consciousness/airway obstruction -cardiovascular emergencies
-stress-related/non-stress related emergency situations -uncontrolled bleeding

Second Session THE CHAMBER OF MEDICATION SECRETS: What Your Patients Don't Know or Aren't
Telling You About What’s in Their Medicine Cabinet Our patients continue to medicate and self-medicate with a variety of prescription and non-prescription products,
unaware of potentially serious dental and systemic drug interactions, contraindications, and adverse effects. Armed with limited information and faced with rising medication
costs, patients frequently share prescription medications and add or substitute non-prescription products, often without mention during a review of their medical history. This
course is designed to provide dental professionals with an overview of the oral and systemic health effects of the most frequently used prescription drugs, non-prescription
drugs, herbal supplements and nutraceuticals as well as techniques for successfully obtaining an accurate patient medication history.
