Through a lecture presentation, the participant will understand the classification of periodontal disease to support their clinical assessments. Included in the subject review is an in depth explanation between the medical-periodontal link. Treatment planning for surgical and non surgical periodontal therapy is also addressed.

During a hands on workshop with a variety of periodontal instruments and periodontal teeth models, we will examine new ways to access various teeth surfaces.  The role of ergonomics for patient and clinician comfort will be addressed. A review of the AAP guidelines applied to treatment planning and ADA CDT codes will be included.

Course objectives: The dental hygienist will be able to:
  •  recognize new instrument designs and applications
  •  practice with a variety of instruments
  • discuss the benefits of ergonomic support
  • discuss desensitizing agents for improved patient comfort
  • relate periodontal assessment, classifications, treatment planning and insurance codes.

Dr. Wilkie Stadeker, Board Certified Periodontist

Dr. Stadeker received his Dor of Dental Surgery degree from Northwestern University where he received several honorary awards. He served in the Army as a general dentist and later attended the University of Alabama where he received his certificate in Periodontology.  Dr. Stadeker has published articles in the US and Canada. He lectures to dental organizations and lectured on Periodontolgoy for a national board review. He practices in Marietta, GA.
 
Joyce Ann Turcotte, RDH, M.Ed., FAADH
 
Joyce is the President of Professional Learning Services, LLC, an educational and consulting service, established in 1987. Joyce conducts dental hygiene refresher programs, seminars, workshops and CPR on an ongoing basis. She lectures nationally on various dental hygiene topics. 
 
Joyce has combined clinical practice and teaching for over 35 years. She is an adjunct faculty at Nova SE University, Department of Periodontics, Fort Lauderdale, FL.   Joyce received the 2014 Mentor of Distinction award presented by Philips Oral Healthcare and RDH Magazine.  She has served as president for both the Connecticut Dental Hygiene Association and the American Academy of Dental Hygiene. Her education and career preparation is from Temple University, PA, University of Bridgeport, CT and New York City Community College.
