OSHA and Infection Control

Effective 10.1.16, All dentists, RDHs and CDA's are required to comply with the State of Connecticut, Department of Public Health mandate for infection control practices. This mandate must be repeated every monitoring period. Federal law requires an annual OSHA/Infection Control update.

Occupational Health and Safety training is mandatory for all employees working in healthcare settings. This presentation promotes insight for employees to understand potential risk and develop safety strategies essential to comply with OSHA and CDC guidelines.

Join this seminar to learn about the new mandated Hazmat guidelines which should have been implemented in your practice by June 2016.There will be a discussion on the latest policies for record keeping and chemical safety. A description on what should be included in your office exposure control and post exposure plans will be included. Several new products will be introduced that assist with optimal infection control procedures as well as promote an eco-friendly environment.

Objectives:
Participants will:
  • Distinguish areas of potential injury in the workplace.Develop strategies to reduce the risk of injury and disease transmission according to OSHA and CDC guidelines.
  • Design and implement policies required for Exposure and Post Exposure Control Plans for their practice.
  • Review hazmat guidelines and how to implement them in a dental practice.
Cultural Competency in Dental Care

Effective 10.1.17, All dentists, and dental hygienists are required to comply with the State of Connecticut, Department of Public Health, CE mandate for Cultural competency. This required course must be repeated every monitoring period.

This presentation on Cultural Competency provides insight for the dental healthcare professional on unique verbal and non-verbal communication skills.  Participants will be enlightened on how recognizing cues, which are often critical in healthcare decisions and values, impact the treatment and care of patients. This workshop serves to promote team cohesiveness in regards to self-awareness, attitudes, beliefs, biases, and behaviors.  Additionally topics such as harassment and discrimination in the workplace are included.Course objectives:
 
Upon course completion participants will:
  •  recognize issues related to cultural competency and oral healthcare
  •  define the benefits of providing culturally and verbally appropriate oral health care and treatment planning
  •  implement appropriate practice management and effective communication strategies related to cultural competency
  •  identify barriers to effective communication
  •  articulate how effective communication skills and styles can affect the ability to promote culturally diverse oral health services and acceptance

Cathie Collier, RDH, B.Ed, MS,
received her bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene Education from the Fones School at the University of Bridgeport, where she later served as DH Clinical Coordinator. Her recent accomplishment earned her a Masters degree in Health and Healing. As a national lecturer, she provides training in Occupational Health and Safety, Infection Control, HIPAA regulations, CPR and Medical Emergencies in the Dental Office. She has assisted numerous dental practices throughout New England with program recommendation and practice compliance. Cathie is a clinical instructor at Lincoln College of Dental Hygiene and also serves on faculty at the Emergency Care Institute at Bridgeport Hospital and on the PLS Advisory Board.
